Started reading this series a while back and it’s hard to find Manwha as well written as this. It’s just as good as Noblesse in terms of story telling.
The series follows a South Korean high school kid, called Shioon, who’s always been bullied by some asshole and his crew. His class gets a new eccentric teacher who’s pretty much laid back and likes hitting on a pretty female colleague. Shioon soon discovers his teacher has some pretty cool tricks and asks him to teach him how to defend himself. But Shioon doesn’t know he’s about to be dropped into the grueling world of martial arts, where he’s going to experience shit like he’s never seen before.
Now, one of the things that sets this series apart is that shit doesn’t go the way you’d expect things to go for our protagonist. He doesn’t level up and win high-level fights instantly like in some other series. He actually gets beat up a lot, like a whole lot.
One thing that sets this apart is wondering who the real bad guy really is at a particular point. The line between protagonist and antagonist blurs pretty quickly through the series that it would take you a while to come to terms with it. You’d watch as someone you’ve grown to love in the first part goes rogue in New Waves and there’s pretty much no one who can stop them. This change is handled so well, and doesn’t feel forced, neither is it hinted at. It just happens, and it resonates with you, the reader (yes, you), because it fits what you’ve come to learn about the character.
New Waves (Part II) kicks things up a notch with new characters and much more larger stakes — life/death stakes. There’s less comedy than in Part I but I still feel this is better written and the fights are better done.
Anyways, if you’re looking for a new Manga/Manwha series to read, I’d suggest you try out this. The drawing at the beginning is a bit rough, but it gets better over time. El Magnifico has already started reading it, so if you want more info on how awesome a series this was, you can always hit him up.
P.S — The series is divided into 2. Part I has 72 chapters, while Part II has 201 chapters.
